bewitchinghaze | Curse Removal (Val, Riley & Maybe Grant???)

Val bounced out of bed, early for once in her life. A strengthening potion and a couple good sleeps later and she was brimming with magic and very much ready to start work on the Middleton Estate. Skipping down the hall, she knocked open Riley's door and threw herself across her still sleeping form.

"Unniiiie!" she called into her ear, giggling. "Wakey-wakey! I need your help today. I'll even treat you to breakfast on our way."

Not even bothering to wait for her to get up, she bounded over to her closet and hauled out an outfit, tossing it behind her onto her sister's head. A moment later, she was halfway down the hall, singing some Taylor Swift song at the top of her lungs as she gathered up chalk and herbs for the spell circle. A ridiculously quick, and noisy, minute later she was dressed and in makeup. The plants in the house had begun to go a little wild, tossing off new blooms, which she admonished them for and promised she'd be pruning later. Taking a deep calming breath, she went back to Riley's room.

"Come on, slowpoke! I'm ready when you are."

Riley's a momma bird when it comes to her sister, so even as Val is fine and relaxing with her tea and vine, Riley still touches her head and nd checks her vision to make sure she's okay. It's for her own peace of mind. Curses can leave marks on the people who erase them and her priority is to always make sure her sister is safe.

"Ugh what a hassle. I don't understand people most of the time. What did this whole curse thing really accomplish?" She takes a chocolate bar out of the bag and grumpily munched on it.

Val grumbles but lets her sister do her mothering, sipping quietly at her tea. "I'm just tired, you know. I can see and hear just fine."

"It caused a ruckus and got some attention. Probably the entire point." she shrugs. "Not like it really ruined the party all that much. People around here are too used to magic to freak out too much over this stuff."

"Hush and let me comfort you." She pats Val's head. "It's not very effective when half the party is lit and unfazed by a memory loss."

She sticks her tongue out before flopping back into the grass, stretching out as it tickles against her bare arms. "Seriously... They're probably really pissed that they only got a little mention in the paper yesterday," she giggles. "Serves them right, trying to ruin the hard work that went into things."

"Good. I'm glad the Middleton's got more out of that article than they did. It's frustrating to have that happen at a party meant to give us all a level playing field."

"It really is. Whoever pulled that crap is not helping give witches a better name." she sighs, frustrated.

"God, right?" She finishes off her chocolate a bit too angrily. "Just when we get people to start understanding and trusting us, someone has to pull this shit. Admittedly, it could have been a lot worse. But still, really sets us back."

Val leans over to pat her knee. "Lean back and watch the clouds with me. They're calming." she grins, knowing her sister could go off on a rant at any moment.

"Uuughh fiiinnne." Riley lays on her back beside Val and stares up at the sky, but her brain's going a mile a minute. "Hey did you know Les can magic lightning?"

Val stares up at a cloud, brushing away an over-active blade of grass. "Who the hell is Les?"

"Oh, damn, right. You've probably seen him around. He has a job everywhere for like...a day." Riley sneezes when Val's blade of grass hits her nose. "Ya, careful! He's the laziest witch I've ever met. He was wearing the full mask at the ball."

"The lazy witch thing sounds familiar..." she mused, squinting slightly. "The full mask thing doesn't exactly help though. Does that cloud look like a lily or is it just me?"

She side-eys Val. "Do they all look like flowers to you?" Riley pulls a twizzler out of her pocket and starts chewing on it. "He's worked a lot of places, especially places at the boardwalk. I told him he couldn't recreate that potion of grandmother's that I couldn't figure out, and sure enough, he figured it out. With lightning."

"...Some look like trees." she mumbles quietly. "...With lightning? What kind of difference did that make? And... small words, please. You know I'm not into chemical-y science shit."

Riley drops her head into the grass exasperated. Still, she points to another cloud. "Pie. We got the ingredients right. But the potion had to be heated at a specific temperature. Or else it explodes. Which Les learned and made his neighbors think he's a meth dealer. But lightning hitting sand conducts the perfect temp. It worked!"

"Oh please, that's totally an iris." she shakes her head, flicking a handful of grass at her. "Huh... Awesome! So are you gonna start learning how to throw lightning now? ...And teaching me because that sounds badass."

She sneezes again. "Hey, I'm sensitive! And heck no! Les' powers are rooted in fire so summoning up lightning is right up his ballpark. Even then, it was dangerous and he drained himself. You and I would take a looooong time learning and it still wouldn't be very natural to us."

Grinning, she gets the grass on Riley's other side to grow up tall enough to tickle her cheek. "Damn... It would've been awesome if summoning lightning would bring along rainstorms. It'd be even more useful."

Riley's closed her eyes by now just as the grass touches her cheek and she slaps it away. "YA! No! No touching!" She shrugs. "He might be able to do that too? The whole sky went dark and thunder rolled in."

Val cackles, rolling away. "You're such a baby about my plants!" she laughs. "Awesome. I'm dragging him into my garden next time there's a drought."

"Only because you're so annoying about it," she corrects. "I'm pretty sure he'll do anything for food so you'll be a-okay."

"Nah, it's because you're a big ol' baby," she smiles, letting the grass brush against her cheek. "Awesome. He can have some cucumbers and stuff from the garden."

"I'm sure he'll take that deal in a heartbeat."

"Our veggie garden is gonna be amazing this year." she grins, eyes unfocusing as she imagines it.

"Mmmm fresh salads," Riley smiles, rubbing her tummy. "You always grow the best food."
